Courier/Delivery companies
Going to be sending a lot of parcels and containers out soon, none huge, as part of a new venture.
Other than the obvious Royal Mail/parcel force can anyone recommend any?

I spend with my business over £50k per year on parcels. I used UK Mail but after some appalling service went back to Royal Mail/Parelforce. A reliable service and to be honest with a good support network.

Like many others on here I'd avoid Yodel like the plague.

Re: Courier/Delivery companies
Yodel are fucking shit. Wasted 2 days waiting for delivery of a new phone - was told I wasn't in when he called even though I was. On third day I called them and was told he'd successfully delivered it. I queried this and they said they'd speak to him. Got called back to say he wasn't picking up and I would have to call on Monday to chase it. What??#?

Called on the Monday to be told he'd delivered it to a neighbour. Which one - I lived in a block of 20 flats. He didn't know. Did he get a signiture? Yes but couldn't read it or the printed name. They got him to come back to see if he could remember the name looking at the buzzers - major grump about it. He couldn't.

In the end, a few days later someone from another block rang my bell and gave me the package. Dozy Yofel cunt had been ringing bell for different address. Didn't even twig he'd delivered to the wrong address one day and turned up to the right address to speak to me a few days later.

Absolutely avoid them.

I live round the corner from the yodel depot in Wednesbury. It's not wonder they are shit with the knuckle staggers that work there. They don't even know how to cross roads properly on foot let alone find a house in a van

Heard good things about DPD, i can't use them because they wont accept liquids through their network.
There drivers always seem happy.

It depends on what you are sending and weight. Royal Mail do a service called packet post, cheap as but works out on average weight. minimum 3500 packets per year.
p.m me if you need help.

More than once making no effort to deliver when I was definitely at home and the door buzzer is as loud as the crack of doom, suspect if running late they just stick a card through the door and drive off. They were in the news for damaging ceramic poppies from the Tower of London. One guy's CCTV caught them lobbing the box over the gate.

Where you getting quorn and sample bottles delivered?

As a customer I've not had an any bother with RM or Hermes. I think DPD are pretty good, always delivery when they say and if you give instructions to leave it someone it is left there.

Do both. Have a dropdown to select country and show prices accordingly.

I'm thinking of setting up a mail order business in a specialist DVD area (no, not porn) with downloads.

Used to be good business mail order when I was a lad, but with Amazon and Ebay not so sure these days.

I've got a niche market where I can buy for $4 and sell for £15 to £20 so it's not like say computer games where you're buying at £24 to sell at £35 but Tesco are selling it for £24.99.

- Should I do prices in dollars to attract the Yanquee dollar? They would be put off by British pound yes?

- Similar question for postage. "Free" postage over £25/$30 (?) and take it out of the profit margin from your £3 cost price to £14.99 retail.

- Advertise in magazines, flyers, Google adwords, got a twitter account with 9k followers.

Re: Courier/Delivery companies
I'm always having to go to the post office depot to collect anything sent by royal mail (they even run away when i'm in) but all the other companies manage to leave it with a neighbour thus saving me time & effort. Must be something to do with our extremely barky mutt. Had one driver hold onto my door when the dog was doing his usual mentalist canine thing. Seems our household has a reputation. Anyway, fuck 'em. I hope the other courier companies put royal mail out of business

Collect Plus are very good and a lot of corner shops take your parcels in for them

Re: Courier/Delivery companies
Yodel is a terrible TERRIBLE company.

Last xmas they dumped a parcel of gifts I'd bought online, on the ground, slightly to the side of my front door, utterly exposed to any lightfingered scrotes. My front door opens almost straight onto a busy street. It was supposed to be signed for, as well. I emailed the online retailer and told them they won't get any more of my custom while Yodel is their courier.

Re: Courier/Delivery companies
This is no word of a lie.

I was waiting at my flat for a parcel to be delivered by Yodel, had been all week as I was WFH.

Each day I'd phone them and each day they'd say the driver said he couldn't get access to the property - all he had to do was dial my flat number on the intercom. I even took to sitting outside for half hour during the hour window they gave me.

On the fourth day I was on the phone having a pop, when the girl said he'd just left the previous delivery and was therefore on his way.

I kept her on the phone for a couple of minutes and lo and behold a Yodel can drive past my flat - I can see the road from the flat - didn't stop mind. Told her I'd seen a van go by.

I rung off, phoned back ten mins later and she said he'd updated his PDA saying he couldn't get access to the property again.

Told her it was no surprise he couldn't if he didn't stop. Complained again so she said she'd have him there within half hour.

He showed up with a right attitude because he'd been caught out being a cunt. Fucking prick. Spoke to a bird I knew a few floors down and she'd had similar and went to the depot near Bristol in the end.

Utter cunts.

far cough well i took him to court as well and he paid up after a bit, but did not blame him as he was not YODELS customer it was two companys down the line
that he was dealing with, so i continued with the claim against YODEL just waiting for the payout.
